What’s the best time of the year to visit Rio?
Rio is a year round destination! The temperature rarely drops below 15 ° C (59 ° F) and even in winter it can be as high as 30 ° C (86 ° F). My favorite months are May and September, when temperature is mild and the city is not as crowded as during summer months.
Summer (December to March):
High season. Crowded beaches, lots of people on the streets and also the best time of year for those who want to enjoy Rio’s nightlife and partying. Prices are higher, especially near new year’s eve and carnival. The temperature easily reaches 40 ° C (104 ° F) and the high humidity increases the sensation of heat. It is the rainy season of the year and expect some short and heavy thunderstorms.
Autumn (April to June):
Mid-season. The temperature drops a bit, there’s less rainfall and many sunny days. Prices are also lower and the city is less crowded.
Winter (July and August):
Low season. These are the coldest months of the year, but the temperature rarely drops below 15 ° C (59 ° F). Rainfalls are less common and, with some luck, you can enjoy a sunny and warm day at the beach. Altough it’s winter, sometimes temperature can get as high as 30 ° C (86 ° F).
Spring (September to November):
Mid-season. Very similar to autumn. More mild temperatures, less rainfall, lots of sunny days and reasonable prices!
